Kassel was first mentioned in 913 AD as the place where twodeeds were signed by King Conrad I. Kassel is located on the river Fulda in northern Hessen. 1943 it was to 90% destroyed during bombing raids. Kassel was almost completely rebuilt in the 1950s. Above the city the Wilhelmshöhe Palace was built in 1786. It is urrounded by the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. Further up the hill is the Löwenburg, a replica of a medieval castle.
